Our trip to Grand Teton National Park was the perfect blend of mountain adventure, crystal‑clear lakes, and just enough adrenaline to keep every moment unforgettable. Staying at Jenny Lake Campground put us right in the heart of the Tetons, surrounded by towering peaks and the sounds of wind moving through the pines. It’s one of the most iconic—and peaceful—places to wake up in the entire park.

01Basecamp: Jenny Lake Campground

Tucked beneath the jagged skyline of the Teton Range, Jenny Lake Campground made an ideal home for our stay. This tent‑only campground sits just steps from the water, giving easy access to hiking trails, boat docks, and wildlife viewing. At sunrise, alpenglow danced across the mountains, and at night, the sky opened up into an explosion of stars—perfect for families wanting a classic national park camping experience.

02Hike to Phelps Lake and Jumping Rock

One of the highlights of the trip was the hike to Phelps Lake and its famous Jumping Rock. The trail winds through lodgepole forests and sagebrush flats, offering plenty of teachable moments about the region’s ecology—like how glacial activity carved out many of the lakes and valleys we see today. Once we reached Phelps Lake, Jumping Rock provided both a natural diving board and a chance to cool off in some of the clearest water in the Tetons. Brave souls leapt from the rock while others soaked in the scenery. This spot is not only thrilling but also an incredible place to observe how untouched and pristine these alpine lake environments remain.

03Inspiration Point & Hidden Falls

Another highlight was exploring the west side of Jenny Lake. We started by taking the boat ferry across the lake—an adventure in itself as the Tetons tower dramatically above the water. From the far shore, we hiked up to Hidden Falls, where a powerful cascade tumbles through a forested canyon. It’s a great place for kids and adults alike to learn about mountain streams, snowmelt, and how waterfalls shape the landscape. From there, we climbed a series of switchbacks to reach Inspiration Point, where the view opens dramatically to Jenny Lake and the valley beyond. The vantage point gave us a front‑row seat to the rugged cliffs and glacially carved terrain of the Teton Range. After soaking in the scenery, instead of taking the ferry back, we hiked the lakeshore trail, giving us a whole new perspective of the landscape.

04Whitewater Rafting with Dave Hansen

To add a splash of adrenaline, we joined Dave Hansen Whitewater Guides for a trip down the Snake River. This stretch of river is famous for its fun, splashy rapids—big enough to get your heart pumping but still family‑friendly. Along the way, we watched for bald eagles perched in cottonwoods and learned a bit about the river corridor’s ecosystem. Our guide, Bryce, brought the perfect mix of humor, safety, and local knowledge. Whether the river was throwing waves at us or smoothing out into scenic stretches, the trip was an amazing way to experience the Tetons from a totally different angle.

05The Spirit of the Trip

This Grand Teton adventure had everything—mountain mornings, glacial lakes, epic views, and the pure fun of being outside together. It was the kind of trip that makes you appreciate wild places and the value of protecting them for future generations. From hiking trails filled with history and wildlife to the cool rush of Snake River whitewater, the Tetons reminded us that adventure is best when shared.
